Spring Reading Week roars life into books

Posted on: 14 March 2014

MashaAllah, reading week for spring term was a very big success.

The theme for this term’s week-long celebration of reading was centred on animals, more specifically "Rumble in the jungle" by Giles Andreae.  The week started off with painting animal faces and by the end of the first day nearly all the pupils were walking around the school as a bat, lion, zebra, butterfly, Spiderman and even a couple of stray cats!

Year 1 and 2 Infants class were busy making a "Rumble in the Jungle" display and poetry work themed on animals. The Junior classes did a range of activities from making bookmarks, doing book reviews and having a cross-curricular approach to lessons with the theme of animals.  Stories from the Qur’an were also told to broaden pupils’ understanding.

MashaAllah as part of Reading week for World Book Day all the pupils of Fitrah School visited Waterstones the bookstore. A book token was given to each pupil to purchase a free book, in some cases even two.  The day ended with a lovely picnic in the parks followed by a game of football in the park opposite the Civic Centre.

To round off the week a cake sale was held to raise funds for new library books and a school assembly also to share the work done by the pupils.  Alhamdulillah £126.80 was raised.
