Evening of inspiration hits the right note

Posted on: 25 April 2014

Alhamdulillah Southampton was treated to an evening of inspiration when international artist Junaid Jamshed was accompanied by global education expert Edris Khamissa, the UK’s Ehsaan Tahmid and pupils of Fitrah Southampton Islamic Primary School to raise awareness of, and funds for, the school.

The event, a co-production between Fitrah SIPS and Spiritual Chords (South Africa), was the first time such an event had been held in Southampton with such a luminous array of talent and at a venue as Turner Sims at the University of Southampton.

The packed programme – covering melodious prose (nasheed), illuminating talks, the premiere of a film about Fitrah SIPS and an auction – went late into the night but Alhamdulillah raised £10k for the school.

Masha'Allah over 300 people attended the event, including Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes and elected members Derek Burke and Stephen Barnes-Andrews.

Trustee of Fitrah SIPS and one of the event organisers Nazrul Islam said, “Masha’Allah this event went beyond anyone’s expectations.  It was important not only to raise funds for the school but to accurately promote the school and build confidence amongst donors and parents that there is huge merit in supporting it.

It was also amazing to see and sense the hearts of the people positively affected by the event.  We are blessed with so much talent; Alhamdulillah that the school gives everyone the opportunity to contribute towards its continued success inshaAllah. ”

“I would like to thank everyone who came to the event, volunteered, sponsored and participated in it – let us continue to work together for the betterment of the community and society as a whole inshaAllah.”
